19th century meuble de berger
19th century Meuble de berger.
This piece of furniture comes from the French Alps and was made and used by the shepherds who traveled through the Alps with their sheep.
This furniture was kept in the mountain huts where the shepherds stayed overnight.
When the shepherd wanted to eat, he unfolded the table. when he had finished eating, he could fold the table again to save space. since most mountain huts were not very big, this was a smart way to save space.
